A new restaurant has opened just 5 minutes away from home!
Technically, it’s not new-new because it’s been there for just over a year now, but it’s still an awesome new addition to our “small-town-feels” barangay. I love where I live (the highlands of Cabantian, Davao City!), but I must admit that the lack of good dining options (that is not Dexter’s or Santino’s Pizza or short order food counters) can be depressing sometimes. So when I saw Rustic Kitchen, I knew I should try it!
We were finally able to try their dishes a month ago, during Mother’s Day.
I wanted my future house to be all white and minimalist, with clean lines and natural light coming in. I was conflicted when I entered Rustic Kitchen. I want a country-style cabin, too! Perhaps I should reserve the latter for a vacation house in the province. #librelangmangarap #becausewhynotchocnut
Here are pictures of the charming interior:
There were two levels, but I wasn’t able to check upstairs. Next time I’ll choose a table upstairs and take more pictures!
Anyhoo, here are the dishes we ordered:

Baby Back Ribs – P199

Parmesan Crusted Chicken – P140

Baked Mac and Cheese – P175

Tender Calamares – P175

Texas Fried Chicken – P125

Chicken Cordon Bleu – I forgot the exact price but it was around the P185 mark I think?

Lumpiang Shanghai – I also forgot the exact price… perhaps around P120?
And because it was Mother’s Day, we were given 2 slices of cake on the house! We didn’t know about their Mother’s Day promo prior to coming there so it was a pleasant surprise.
Verdict Time!
Food
Wow their food is realllly good, like I have no complaints at all. My Baby Back Ribs were indeed tender and flavourful and so were the other dishes (I may or may not have gottenย more than a spoonful of each dish on our table). Their chicken was cooked perfectly and the calamares were nicely crunchy and savoury. Even the free cake was delicious!
Servings were adequate. The ratio of rice to meat is 3:1 in favour of meat, which I like because I’m a carnivore. Rawr.
Price
Price is quite good, actually! For only around P200, you will get a complete meal for one. And again, they don’t scrimp on servings!
Location
Initially, I thought that only Cabantian-ons (and those willing to go the distance to visit our place) will be able to taste their dishes, but I believe they recently opened a new branch nearer downtown. I think it’s in Legaspi Suites, if I am not mistaken. Quick, pay Rustic Kitchen a visit!
(I’m still partial to the Cabantian branch though. Visit me and I will treat you to lunch there. Or maybe just coffee or dessert. I’m trying to save money. Haha)
Service
I am a big fan of Rustic Kitchen’s service! Rarely do I find local restaurants where each customer is asked about the meal (the other local restaurant with superb service of this level is Bon Appetit), and in Rustic Kitchen’s case, we were asked by the supervisor (I assume) in a professional manner — as opposed to intrusive. The waitstaff was attentive to our needs and made us feel at home.
Bonus points for the free cake!
Have you ever tried eating at Rustic Kitchen Restaurant?

The meals there are so cheap! I want to fly to Davao now.. haha.. Kidding aside, I haven’t visited Davao for a long time. Keeping this in mind. ๐
This is wow! The meal is very affordable and the parmesan chicken looks yummy!
I think I saw a Rustic Kitchen in within the compound of Gaisano Grand Mall of Digos. I didn’t know there’s one–or two–in Davao City. The foodie pics look very inviting. I hope to try it soon.
