A WAHM’s Simple Home Office

home office

It’s Monday again! It’s time to rise and grind!

Because I’m working for an Australian company, my work day begins much earlier than most people’s work days – or at least much earlier than the hours I used to work. I usually begin working at 6 am to 7 am, and since my boy’s still asleep by that time (we co-sleep), the first part of my work day is usually done in bed. Which means I’m usually reading emails and replying to messages lying down and with droopy eyes.

But a couple of hours later, I “magically” transform from a slob into a professional-looking WAHM. Aside from the fact that I will have already eaten breakfast by then, working in my own home office does the job. I admit it also boosts my productivity!

This home office is not just mine; half of it (most probably more) belongs to my mother, while I have my own space in it. You see, we both need a home office because most of the work we do are done at home. We are both real estate practitioners, and she is theย purokย leader while I’m working as an assistant editor for Stay At Home Mum Australia.

We used to do our work inside the house, but my dad got fed up with papers and laptops blocking passageways at home that they finally had an office constructed last summer. It’s nothing big really. It’s just an annex that is a little smaller than your regular single bedroom, but we love it!

Here are some pictures of the inside:

Much of what you saw are not fancy stuff – the big desk used to be mine but I exchanged it for a smaller one and gave the former to my mum because it’s too big for me. The drawers are also in dire need of repainting. My chair is just an extra chair from the dining table – I haven’t gotten around to looking for a new one yet. But, yeah, it’s a work in progress and I love having my own work space!

Yay for the new site Maan ๐Ÿ™‚ I just realize a few weeks ago that your new site might already be live because I kept checking the old one for some sort of a redirect message or something to this site so I had to check your old article for the link to this one hehehe. Congrats!

Wee thanks for walking the “extra mile” just to get here! I didn’t migrate my blog coz it’s super stressful. I also can’t write a formal message telling my readers that I’ve transferred here because I’m still waiting for confirmation about a sponsored post. Welcome, welcome!

Nice new page and nice new office too! Really hoping to have one too at home, but I guess that’s not feasible yet at the moment! Congrats, sissy! ๐Ÿ™‚

First, I did not recognize that this is your blog, Maan. LOL. Well, I know it has been a while for me to do the rounds, too. My URL is different as well. ๐Ÿ™‚ Second, I am now a WAHM, too, for a month now. And I have yet to establish my work station. Still looking for that spot. :))

How wonderful you have your own space! I hope hubby gets tired of me working in the bedroom and help me have my own space too **wishful thinking**

I work outside the home for an aussie company too. Can totally relate to starting the day earlier than everyone but the perk is ending the day earlier ahead of everyone too!

Love the workspace! It feels so professional even if it’s just at home. ๐Ÿ™‚ Parang I also want one! Haha.

Good that you have one! I badly need a home office even if I’m not actually working at home. LOL

I want to have my own space at home also even I am not a WAHM but there are times that I need to work at home. I like the corner for your son ๐Ÿ™‚ my son is my shadow when I am at home

I love how you decorated your work space! The bookends are soo cute! And it’s also perfect that your son has his own shelf of books, so that he can feel that he also belongs there ๐Ÿ™‚

gosh, i really need a home office and an enclosed one too! Right now, I’m in the living area and the noise sucks, can’t concentrate! Thanks for giving me an idea!

It’s good you have your own space. We live in a 36sqm condo so I don’t really have a permanent space to call my own office space, although we have a corner for our laptops and printers.. i end up working at the dining table to watch my kids play ๐Ÿ™‚ Cheers to us WAHMs ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh and I love that elephant bookcase ๐Ÿ˜€

I used to work with an Australian firm too and I can relate to waking up extra early! I used to start at 4am because I did digital marketing and social media and I always want to check what everyone’s up to at 7am in Oz! I feel you when you said you need an office. I badliy need an office too but I’ll probably start after I pop the baby and when we’ve shifted to our new home. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you need a contributor, please let me know! I’ll be glad to contribute! My hubby is Aussie we might go there to visit his folks once the baby can travel. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s nice to find you here, Maan! You have a beautiful blog.

I have a day job, but I get the privilege to work from home once in a while. We just recently moved in to our own house so I still don’t have a proper work space. Most of the time, I use the couch or the bed. I hope to have a decent work space soon. Yours looks so organized! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ugh I miss my office back in our old house, but I can’t complain, that one’s got snakes and we just couldn’t risk it anymore.

Do we have the same lappie?

  • Reply MitchRyan August 11, 2015 at 12:25 pm

I guess what matter is not if it is new or not, pretty or ugly, cheap or expensive, but the functionality and comfort it brings. Great hub you have there!

I wish we could convert our closed down sari-sari store here to a home office. But it’s right in front of the house and it’s not really enclosed (the front is just metal gates). Plus, I’m not so sure how well it takes the heat at the peak of the afternoon. For now, I think I’m okay with our playroom/office room. ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s a pretty nice office space. Plus Yuri has his own place there so you can still watch over him while you work. ๐Ÿ™‚

That is so nice! Having a small space for work in the house to me is perfecg for WAHMs. It will indeed increase your productivity. I love it.

That’s a really cute office. I’ve always wanted to have my own workplace/office at home with a little space for my art stuff too. Posts like these make me want to quit the corporate world soon. Hihi

It is really a good idea to have a working space like this and you’re lucky you already have one. I’ve been thinking about this for quite some time so I hope I can get to accomplish it really soon.
