I finally got into makeup during the later part of 2015.
Not the entire thing, but you know, the basics. I’ve always been just the BB cream + lip balm + eyebrow pencil girl, and it served me well, but I noticed that I looked pale in pictures. That was the sole reason why I started mulling over full lip colour (good bye, sheer lip balm!).
As I’m a novice when it comes to the makeup game, I have no idea what colours would work for my face and skin tone. No way am I going to buy expensive makeup without experimenting first — that would be too risky for a clueless girl like me!
So I’m starting with cheap — as in cheap — drugstore makeup, brands like e.l.f. and Maybelline. I already have a handful of lipsticks, but I wanted to experiment with matte lippies. Here’s my most recent drugstore makeup haul:
1. Simply Pretty Pressed Powder
I wasn’t planning on purchasing this but I needed something cheap to avail of free shipping from Zalora LOL, and since I was almost out of pressed powder, I added it to my cart on impulse. It works well (then again, my face is not that choosy when it comes to makeup), but not the best pressed powder out there.
2. Maybelline Hyper Curl Volume Express Mascara
I got this one on sale! I usually don’t wear mascara, but who can resist the P149 price tag? (Yes, when I said cheap, I meant cheap!). And I’m loving it! I can wear it all throughout the day and it doesn’t flake at all. Even when exposed to the sun and the elements, at night, the mascara is still there, no smudging whatsoever. It’s even waterproof (at least in my experience — I wore it to Buda during a storm). All for the dirt-cheap price of P149. Must. Hoard. This.
3. e.l.f. Lipliner Pencil in Mauve
I just bought this because I don’t have a lipliner. Truth is I don’t really need a lipliner, I think. (I could be wrong, of course.) I just want to build up my nonexistent makeup collection, and this is an essential.
4. Wet N Wild Matte Lipstick in Just Peachy
This is my new daily lipstick. I am in love with peachy-nudes! I think they totally work for my skin colour. I love that this one gives me an MLBB (My Lips But Better) look. I even wear this at home.
5. e.l.f. Eyebrow Stencil Kit
Eyebrows are the bane of my existence. I love shaping and grooming my brows, but sometimes, they don’t cooperate. Maybe because they are, in nature, unruly? I like experimenting with different brow shapes using this stencil kit!
6. e.l.f. Matte Lip Color in Cranberry
This is my new go-to lipstick for evening events. I like how it is not overpowering — and it doesn’t make my teeth look yellow (ick!). My favourite thing about this lippie? It tastes sweet!
So… what else do I need to buy? Any tip for a makeup newbie like me? Drugstore brands only please. I’m not that confident yet to take the MAC plunge! 😀

If you’re looking for a blush try the oil control blush-on from Careline. I’ve read many good reviews about that line. Or the lip and cheek stain from Ever Bilena, it’s a little over 100 pesos. For the lipstick, the mattes from Ever Bilena and Fashion 21 are also good. They’re less than 200 pesos. For the face powder/powder foundation go to Maybelline. I’d like to recommend mylucidinterval.com for makeup reviews. Enjoy your makeup journey.
My friend buys Ever Bilena lippies, too! I’ll give them a try!
My eyebrows are very thick and they are everywhere hehe. Grooming them properly must be on of my beauty goals this year. I hope the stencil kit works. =)

i’m not really into makeups and my to-go only consist of lippies, eyebrow pencil and a blush on. but i’d really like to try and “master” the art of doing a makeup – you know just like the youtube gurus! oh tutorials! hehehe! i like your haul btw, i have the Wet N Wild Matte Lipstick too but in darker shade. 😀
Maybelline mascaras are the best!!! Inggit ako sa 149 na price tag. And Just Peachy is also my go-to nude lippy. Ganda nya kasi it gave a very light sheen. Nakaka-Filipina. Get nichido eyebrow mascara too for your brow obsession. Hahaha!

I’m not sure, but I did find some on sale on display 2 weekends ago!
[…] aside from getting into makeup (here’s my drugstore makeup haul!), I’m also getting into crafting […]
It’s also my goal to learn how to apply makeup. Hopefully I get to learn what brands and colors work for me. This is an excellent idea though. Thanks for sharing!

WOw I love hauls! Obvious naman sa mga post ko lols. I heard ELF is a good brand, even make up lovers from other countries rave on this brand too. I only used their flattop kabuki brush which I used for years. Hows their lip color? I also have the Hypercurl and WnW in the same shade. Pretty no? Same as you, I dont want to jump in make up bandwagon by buying high end brands, besides there are cheap makeups that does the same effect like high end products do. You can try ELF blush, i forgot the shade though the dupe of orgasm. The color is not too loud and perfect for everyday use. 🙂

When I’m on a budget, I also go to the drugstore to buy make up. 🙂 My favorite is Maybelline. This post actually reminded me that I need to get a new tube of mascara!
I think I need that Eyebrow stencil kit.
I gotta learn about this too, i feel left out at times, and gotta look a little competitive pa rin somehow kahit wahm, right? I screen shot most of your items here hehe.
