Finds From The Christmas Bazaar

Christmas Bazaar Davao Convention Center

Have you visited a Christmas Bazaar lately? I have (and have written about it in a previous post) and bought several things in spite of my vow to not buy anything before December.

In fairness, it was almost December last Saturday so I decided to forgive myself. I just set a meagre budget (and went just the littlest bit overboard) and off I went.

I went there with my work gals, Jona and Macy.

Sarah was supposed to be going with us but she had a headache and had to stay home #buntisproblems. Originally, we wanted to visit the bazaar to buy sweaters and stuff for our Christmas getaway. We also wanted to buy matte lippies. Well, we went home with neither. There were gorgeous sweaters there but their price tags weren’t “bazaar prices.” And then there were no matte lippies at all.

I went home with these instead:

Christmas Bazaar at the Davao Convention Center

Christmas Bazaar at the Davao Convention Center

I was supposed to be on a spending fast this month not just because Christmas is coming but because we’re on a tighter budget now. Papa is on a lot of medication, still undergoes dialysis, and just had a minor surgery last Saturday.

However, when I learned that the annual Christmas bazaar is happening over the weekend, I just wasn’t able to say no. (Don’t worry; I didn’t spend a lot! I set a budget — and stayed within it. Woot!)

Today is the Christmas Bazaar’s last day so instead of showing you what I bought, I decided to post pictures of the things that caught my interest. If you’re in Davao today, you still have a chance to catch the last day! From what I’ve heard, it’s usually best to go to bazaars during their final day because prices of goods usually go down.

I wasn’t able to take a picture of everything (because the area is so big and there were so many booths), but these are some of the stuff sold there:

Happy Mail: Huawei Honor 4C, BuriBox, and Blogger Freebies

One of my most favourite feelings in the world is receiving a package. I guess it’s because it’s just like receiving a gift, yes?

Unexpected mails are usually the best!

Last week was a good one because I received four lovely packages, two of which were unexpected. You see, you don’t need to send me anything expensive or luxurious to make me happy. Anything, anything at all, especially when delivered at my doorstep, err gate, will make my day. The men who deliver stuff to my house know this. Sometimes, they even ask me whether I ordered new things for my son again. LOL!

Anyway, here are the lovely things I received last week:

1. Our first BuriBox!

We’re so blessed to have been able to try BuriBox for free, thanks to Janice of The Roller Coaster Ride! Actually, I had been meaning to try BuriBox ever since I first heard about it; however, they weren’t shipping outside Metro Manila yet. Good thing they’re already shipping to other cities and provinces now!

I was so excited when it finally arrived, and Yuri, upon seeing what the box contained (while it was still inside the courier’s bag, he kept asking whether the package was for him!), didn’t waste one second and immediately dug into his BuriBox.

Watch out for my full review of it soon!

Homeschooling Messy Weekends Real Estate Broker Diaries

Busy, Messy Weekend!

Lovely Monday everyone! How was your weekend?

Mine was uneventful but was filled with little bits of busy-bee-ness. It was overall a very fun and productive weekend and I was able to do a lot of things (except watch last Saturday’s Kalyeserye episode — I was able to catch a replay of it yesterday, though; kilig!) Here are the little pieces of fun and work from the weekend:

Site Visit

I work remotely for an Australian company on weekdays; I’m a real estate broker on weekends. This particular weekend, we had a couple of clients that we took on a site visit (aka tripping in local lingo). The projects we showed were located on the other side of the city so we had a pretty long trip.

Christmas Decorations

We (read: my mum and our helper) started putting up decorations last week. They then put up Christmas lights around the house last Friday night.

On a side note, can you believe it’s almost Christmas again? Time flies so fast it’s almost scary! Ahh!

Messy Haul: Natural Bath and Skin Products

Natural Bath and Skin Products Haul

I haven’t posted a haul post in ages! Maybe because I was too busy? And lazy? (Konsensya: Hello, maybe you just weren’t buying anything post-worthy lately!)

That’s true. All of the reasons. Especially the third! Here’s the thing. I have accounts on many shopping websites and I have a lot of items stored in my cart (just in case) but I haven’t felt like shopping in months. There, I said it! I had a hard time accepting that since I’ve always loved shopping (with all my heart) but maybe I’m becoming lazy? I don’t bother checking out items within 48 hours. Heck, I don’t even impulse-buy anymore. Maybe I’ve become more conscious of my spending habits? Maybe it’s because I’m spending money on groceries instead?

Or maybe it’s because I’m *gasp* maturing?

Then again, there are things I just can’t help but buy, and these include natural bath and skin products. Yuri is prone to eczema while I have keratosis pilaris (I just usually say I have skin asthma even though it’s not the same thing), so I usually avoid supermarket brands that have strong ingredients. And I love discovering different local brands that offer organic and/or natural products.

So here’s my latest haul! I bought these from an eBay seller because she carries different local natural products.

What’s In My Cart: Phone, Makeup, and More

I haven’t posted any haul post lately. Must be because I haven’t been buying anything lately? Haha that’s probably the reason why!

Aside from the obvious fact that it’s almost Christmas (can you believe it) and I’m trying to save money for Christmas gifts (emphasis on trying huhu), I find myself spending on food instead of stuff. That’s unlike me because I usually prefer buying stuff over food – must explain the weight gain I’ve had lately?

But that doesn’t mean I’m not window shopping. Oh no, far from that. In fact, I’ve been doing nothing but check online websites. For weeks now. I’m very busy at work (and I’ve been having personal problems — read: LQ), so I’m relieving stress by online window shopping. Who doesn’t love online window shopping? You get the same happy hormone rush as if you’re actually shopping without the buyer’s remorse.

Okay I take it back. It’s not exactly like actual shopping. But it’s still stress-relieving — at least for me! Here are the stuff I’ve been planning to buy (but keep on delaying because I’m one kuripot lady):

1. Phone

An Embarrassing Thing Happened To Me The Other Day

Hey everyone! Blogging just a short and sweet entry today because Miss Joyful Mess is down with the flu. Yes that’s me. I don’t know why, but this year, I’ve been getting sick more often? Does it have to do with weaning from breastfeeding? Or else I’m totally blaming the haze.

The I-have-a-cold-and-I-have-red-nose selfie hahaha. (I didn’t realise how yellow I was until this picture.)

Okay I digress. Something really embarrassing happened to me last Sunday at the mall.

Messy Wins: Aldub + Shopping with Yuri + Travel Plans

I love how time flies so fast when it’s Monday and then all of a sudden, it’s already Friday.

I hate how time flies so fast when it’s Friday night and then, you look away for a second, and it’s already Sunday night. Like right now.

But I don’t lament Mondays for being Mondays. I should be thankful I have a job to look forward to. It’s just the waking-up-early-to-get-to-work-immediately that I’m not very enthusiastic about. For those who don’t know, my work days begin in bed before 6 am.

So let’s just talk about the weekend before it officially ends.

Mixed Mess: Whirlwind Week + Travel Itch + Other Stories

Travel Bug

Oh my goodness, the week is finally coming to an end! And I survived it!

I’ve been having straight busy weeks for some time now, but this week is a different kind of hectic because our family has to deal with a sickness, too. However, work was very hectic this week, too. Aside from training our 3 new hires, I myself have to learn new tasks. On top of that, everyone, especially the staff from Australia, seems to be getting sick. Even my co-pilot Lenz had to miss work the other day because she had a fever – and she’s absent again today because she’s going to Camiguin. Life is fair!

Which leads me to my first story…

Hormones, Adulting, and Hospital Hopping

Okay, I belatedly realise the title may be the slightest bit misleading. Just to avoid making unnecessary assumptions, no, I’m not pregnant. Although I did get so fat… Haha!

But I’ve been extremely hormonal these past few days. I’m blaming it on work-related stress (until last Tuesday, I had been busy conducting interviews with applicants), family matters (my dad was rushed to the hospital Thursday night, underwent dialysis Friday and underwent another round of dialysis today), and personal stressors (discipline problem with Yuri and a minor tampo with Job). And would you believe I caught a stomach flu last Friday? I debated sending myself to the emergency with my dad already admitted in the hospital. Good thing I got well quickly, thank you Lord.

Ah, life is good.

The Night That Was A Blur

I can’t sleep.

I’m actually doing several things at once.

  • Talking to a prospect regarding certain subdivision projects in the city (#PartTimeBrokerThings).
  • Chatting with my workmates and commiserating over problems (which almost always arise on Thursdays).
  • Reading my latest Kindle purchase (I need to limit my purchases).
  • Watching an episode of On the Wings of Love (for the first time – didn’t get to focus on it, too bad).
  • Making sure every single door at home is locked (#OCDproblems).
  • Accepting Duterte’s decision (whatever it is).
  • Looking for that piece of chocolate I swear they didn’t discover yet (it was bought just this afternoon).
  • Regretting drinking that cup of coffee earlier (I don’t even drink coffee).
  • Blogging (obviously).

And waiting for Mama’s call regarding Papa’s condition in the hospital.

Funny, Embarrassing Thursday

I have a funny story.

Yesterday, I took a leave from work because my 2-month old laptop suddenly stopped working. It was working so well and then it suddenly won’t turn on. Either I have abused my battery (possible) or it was attacked by a virus (also possible). It’s a good thing it’s still covered by warranty, both service and parts, so there wasn’t any problem money-wise.

Anyway, my mother and Yuri went with me yesterday because we also needed to drop by HLURB. They texted us saying that our certificates were already. We also decided to run some errands and buy food because it was my dad’s birthday, too.

So we were off to my sister’s school first to pay her tuition fee. We were already on the highway when I realized I wasn’t wearing shoes.

Let’s Talk About Weaning and Why I Did It

I’m currently obsessing over my weight while munching on a chocolate cupcake. Life is not fair hahaha. I know I should be losing weight already (my officemates and I “agreed” on wearing bikinis on our next trip – well, reluctantly agreed), so I shouldn’t be eating carbs and sugar anyway.

During times like this, I wish it was 2012 – mid 2014 all over again.

During those fabulous years, I was still largely breastfeeding then-little Yuri. Of course, he was eating solids before he was 1, but he still nursed several times during the day. In fact, even in 2014, when Yuri was already 2++ years old, he was still nursing several times during the day. So even if I had a big appetite, I was still burning a lot of calories without me having to leave my seat. I barely gained weight even though I ate like a horse.

I was looking through my Instagram feed and found some depressing pictures:

Never mind my armpit on the last picture. I just gave birth for crying out loud. Gimme a break 😛

(There’s also another reason why I love 2012; I didn’t have my period until a month before Yuri turned 1! Bwahaha)

But those lovely, fabulous days are over. Ever since I stopped nursing Yuri a month before he turned 3, I started gaining weight. Like crazy. As in, I’m not even this fat 6 months ago. I steadily and quickly gained weight each day. I am now 10 pounds overweight and almost 20 pounds from my desired weight. All because I weaned.

(And because I’m still a sugar addict, but let’s focus on weaning for now.)

Let’s talk about weaning.

Hello, Thermos Funtainer

Thermos Funtainer Review

Quite a long time ago, we bid goodbye to plastic.

Yes, that should include plastic people, but it’s not as easy as getting rid of plastic cups. Hee hee.

As I was saying, we stopped using plastic utensils at our house. Well, almost. We still have a lot of Tupperware, and some of them are barely used, so we still use them from time to time. In fact, I wrote a post about saying goodbye to plastic in my old blog. We began by buying glass milk jars and mason jars. I was using a Snapware glass tumbler (still using it!), and since Yuri was still 2-years old then, I decided to get him a stainless steel tumbler.

His first stainless steel tumbler was a Kid Basix Safe Sporter bottle. It was the perfect size for his needs and it was light enough to carry around. (Read my review of Kid Basix Safe Sporter.)

Yuri’s first stainless steel bottle

It’s so durable that we’re still using it now. However, since Yuri was using it every single day (and was taking it with him every single moment – he drinks a lot), it has become a little worse for wear. It’s still usable, but one look at it and you can say it has seen better days. He’s also outgrown its size and has begun asking for more water (even when I just refilled it), so I knew it was time for a replacement.

I was window shopping (online, of course!) for another brand of stainless steel bottle and came down to Camelbak, Thermos, and KleanKanteen. Belonging to the same price range, I was happy to have any of the three. However, as luck would have it, I stumbled upon a sale in Cudsly where they were selling Thermos Funtainers at 40% off!

From around P1,350, it was down to less than P750! What a blessing!

Wanted: Yaya!

I’ve been contemplating on getting a new yaya for Yuri for sometime now (I’m no martyr — it’s tiring to look after a 3-year old while working full-time!), but during these past few days, I’ve gone from plain contemplation to desperation! As in!

Yuri had a fever over the weekend. That’s nothing new – kids have fevers all the time. We’re blessed Yuri doesn’t get sick often. And even though he was running a temperature, he was still playing actively. Not as active as his normal level of active, but nothing to worry about. Then he developed cough and a cold, but still nothing to worry about.

So sorry to mislead you, but this has nothing to do with Yuri getting sick. (But he was so clingy when he was sick, so I was also wishing for a yaya during the time).

But no, I found myself desperate to look for a new yaya when Yuri, who was still not in his best form, got into a mild accident.

At home.

A few steps away from where I was.
