More than a month ago, I think a couple of weeks after Yuri’s birthday, I met up with my girlfriends, Hazel and George, to watch the movie, Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis.
Well, it was supposed to be Hele. Until a series of unfortunate events (conflicting schedules, conflicting mall locations, et cetera) led us to cancel Hele. Instead, we ended up watching Batman Vs. Superman. Wut. It was waaay waaay below Hele standard, but hey, at least we were entertained for almost 3 hours.
Because Hazel and I were there at 11 and the movie didn’t start until 2:30, we started to eat an early lunch. We looked for a restaurant that none of us have ever tried before, thus Dong Juan.
Dong Juan’s interior themes are generally wood and earth.
I particularly loved our seats:
I wasn’t able to take pictures of the menu (mum-nesiac) but here are what we ordered:
Both the burger steak and the pork chop steak were priced at — get this — just P150! I was actually expecting a small serving, so imagine my surprise when our orders came out and the servings were actually big! It tasted good, too. Not bad for P150, not bad at all!
And for dessert, we had:
Like the burger and pork chop steaks, the desserts were huge. I don’t remember the exact prices but I think these were priced at around P199 each? I could be wrong because I didn’t photograph the menu lol, but it’s around that price range.
Hazel’s ice cream sandwich was a pleasant surprise because the cookies were not only big but also thick. The dollop of ice cream was generous as well. In fact, she had a “fun” time eating it hahaha.
Meanwhile, the S’Mores mugcake was just diviiiine. Anyone with a sweet tooth will surely appreciate the simple but heavenly dessert. The cake was gooey and there was a lot of chocolate. The plain ice cream went with it perfectly.
George came an hour later with hubby and ordered the same dishes hahaha. But her iced tea caught our attention because it came in the cutest glass bottle:

The mugcake reminds me of the warm brownie cup that I ate in La Marea Pastry Shop. I would love to try the ice cream sandwich, ang laki niya ha.
The s’mores mugcake is glorious… so huge! At least you had good lunch to compensate for missing Hele….
Simple wood interior is very inviting for me. It feels very much….I don’t know, nostalgic for me, in a way. Those burgers and porkchops look good to me, I’d devour them in one sitting for sure. I like how the cookie sandwich looks too, but I don’t think i can eat it. I have a thing about liking how desserts look but can’t seem to eat them?
Wow! Will try this resto next time. My kids would love that ice cream sandwich! And I love big servings! hehe
Hello Maan!It was nice to read your blog posts again. Kumusta? I’d love to try Dong Juan’s ice cream sandwich. It’s not the DQ kind of ice cream sandwich ah! I haven’t seen Lav Diaz’ Hele too and I think I wouldn’t be able to catch it in the cinemas.
🙁 Di bale, malapit na ang Finding Dory! Ang layo! Thanks for sharing!
It’s always a delight to chance upon a restaurant that serves good food at affordable prices. Your desserts look divine!
The interiors remind me of my in-laws’house. 🙂 mugcake is my kind of food. It made me smile when you said it was divine. Glad they have branches in MM.
Uy this is a good resto. Sulit ang bayad because you all enjoyed the taste and big servings. Do they have other branches pa?
My brother once took me to a Dong Juan near his office. It’s also woody and earthy. I wonder of it’s the same.
Oh the burger looks appetizing to me! I feel hungry again – in the middle of the night! Haha!
Does it come with rice? Hehe! ;P The desserts look sooooo gooodddd! Haaayyy I’m craving for smores!! Where is this located again though? 😉
I researched if they have a branch here in Manila and I found one in Quezon City. I hope that they will have more branches here so that we could taste their offerings.
Dining in in an unfamiliar restaurant but with close friends is always a nice experience. You never know what your order looks and tastes like but with masarap na kwentuhan, everything will turn out nice.
That ice cream sandwich looks divine! I love sweets so I will also try that Smores mugcake!
You’re right, that mug cake looks divine!!! I love smores. So I’m pretty sure I’m gonna love that dessert!
Oh god the Iced Tea looks so tempting especially in this season! For P150, the main courses are sulit na. 🙂
This is super affordable.. And the serving is generous! I’d love to try this out soon 🙂
