BPI More Fun Prepaid Card

BPI More Fun Prepaid Card review

You’ve been redirected from my post on BPI More Fun Prepaid Card on DavaoMommy.com.

So I just got myself a credit card.

My first one, in fact, as I had always just borrowed mother’s CC for unavoidable transactions. I was wary of getting one because I don’t want to be into debt; thus, I almost always pay for stuff in cash. If I use a credit card, I like to pay it as soon as I can.

So why have I gotten myself a credit card?

Well, because it’s prepaid.

Remember what I said in my last blog? When I told you how we waited for almost 3 hours in BPI? Ito yun. I was lining up to claim by BPI More Fun Prepaid Credit Card.

Why did I choose this over other credit cards?Β

Again, it’s prepaid, which means if I use it, I’m not using the money I don’t have. On the contrary, I will be spending my own cash (in card form). Think of it as the child of the credit card and the debit card.

What is the difference between a prepaid credit card and a debit card?

The difference between this and a debit card (which I also have) is that it comes with the features of a credit card: card number, security number, and is a Visa. The works. This means you can use it in whatever transaction requires a credit card.

BPI My ePrepaid vs. BPI More Fun

There are actually 2 prepaid credit cards offered by BPI: this and My ePrepaid. I first considered the latter but ultimately decided to get a More Fun card because of two reasons:

  1. It has a lower opening fee: P250 vs. P600.
  2. You can upload your own picture to serve as background for the card.

Oh yes, I’m not kidding. More than the lower opening fee, I gravitated toward More Fun because I can choose the picture I can use. Woot!

I decided to use a picture of Yuri when we were in Costa Marina.

The photo was ultra-crisp on the website but in person, it looked a bit blurred. Maybe this was intentionally done to highlight the card number or other features. Anyway, it does not matter because the actual card is cute enough.

As of now, I haven’t used the card yet. I submitted my account number for the enrollment of the credit card in my BPI online, and I didn’t check whether it has been enrolled already. I will do an update, though, once I finally get to use it!

I applied for this card online and it took around 3 weeks before I finally received an email saying that my card was ready to claim. I’m not sure, though, whether this wait has been made longer because I applied for the card in the middle of Christmas season. To show you what I did to apply and eventually claim the card, I will write a separate post later this week.

If you want more information about this card, you can visit BPI’s website. This is, in any way, a sponsored post. I applied for the card on my own accord and reviewed it because I think it’s cool.

This post was originally written in January 2015.Β

As of now, I have already used my BPI More Fun Prepaid Card several times, including a couple of times with GoDaddy and one time with Photobook Philippines. I’ve also connected it to my PayPal account and used it to re-verify my account. It’s fail-proof and the best part is that I don’t have to think of debts to pay!

Hi! Did you have troubles with enrolling to your expressonline account?
The instructions said to select Express Cash/Express Money Order under the Payments and Reloading menu, however there was no option like that.

I’m worried because I already loaded it through over-the-counter after claiming the card .

but then again, there was an instruction to load through OTC if you don’t have a bpi account. (which I have).

so I’m not really sure what to feel right now. I’ll try to wait until tomorrow or a week if the load will appear in the prepaid inquiry thru SMS and the one in the bpi website, bec for now, it shows up as 0.00

Hi! To clarify, did you mean to say that you already loaded the card OTC but it’s not enrolled to your EOL account yet? You can already use your card, but you just can’t see the balance yet. To fully enrol your card – which means being able to transfer load to it AND check the balance – you need to bring it to BPI. I had a teller enrol my card to my EOL account.

Make sure they enrol it for purposes of loading and checking of balance. Mine was initially enrolled for loading only so I couldn’t check my balance, and I had to return to BPI for full enrolment.

        Thank you for your reply.
Yes, that’s correct. I will try to go back tomorrow for the enrollment. I just wished they did it upon claiming/releasing hehe

Last question, did you print a form through the expressonline account about enrolling?
Payments & Reloading > Prepaid Cards > Enroll Prepaid Cards > Option 2

I know, it would have saved us a lot of time and effort! Yes, I printed that application form and presented it to the teller. If you’re unsure, I guess you can also just go to BPI and request them to enrol your account. Good luck!

  • Reply Frances R July 16, 2015 at 3:43 pm

Did the BPI teller ask for more than 1 valid ID? I’m worried it’ll be as complicated as Unionbank’s EON application process where the teller asked me for my recent payslip, proof of billing and 3 other valid IDs when in fact their website only stated 2 valid IDs are needed.

Your blogpost encouraged me to get this prepaid credit card. I got mine a few months ago but I haven’t used it. We plan to deposit a small amount every month to save for a family trip or vacation next summer. Thanks for sharing helpful tips in your blog, Maan.

      Hi Maan,

I also have this morefun visa prepared card.

You said that it works like a credit card.

Does it mean that I can use it for a installment plan.

I am actually planning to use it to get a new phone but I’m afraid that if I do it, it might use the entire amount to cover for the price of the item.

Please help me understand if I can really use it for installment plans.

      Thank you and God bless!

      • Reply Maan April 11, 2016 at 4:11 pm

Hi Lloydy! I’m not actually sure as I haven’t used it yet to pay for something on instalment basis. However, I think it’s possible — only you need to reload the amount you need to pay monthly before it’s due. The payment is not automatic as most credit cards are (since it’s not really a credit card). It should be more like paying a monthly bill, I imagine.

So glad to read this review! I actually first read about this on bpi website before and really wanted to apply, for the “VISA” reason so I can use it with online purchases. Unfortunately, that one time I asked one bpi staff (BPI Family Savings), they told me it was 600 pesos, though I insisted it was 200+ lang sa website. So hindi ako natuloy.. I think it’s only offered sa BPI, not with BPI Family. ePrepaid pala yung 600, now I know! Hmm gonna visit them again. thanks! πŸ™‚

Hi I really enjoyed reading your article. I was thinking of getting the my eprepaid card but aft eating this I thought the ‘its more fun’ card is way cooler cause it’s cheaper and I can’t resist the customizable card (I’m a sucker for customizing my stuff lol) anyway I found out that the its more fun card is mainly for paying for travelling fees and whatnot but my main purpose is to shop online so I was wondering if there would be ny problem if I use the its more fun card solely for the purpose of online shopping? Thank you so much I’ll wait for your response ☺

Hello! Where did you get the 4-digit code needed by Paypal? Usually it reflects on your card statement but more fun visa prepaid has none.

    • Reply Maan December 10, 2015 at 7:15 pm

Hi! I had to return to the bank and had a teller activate my account. If you have an online BPI express account, look for the option to “Enroll Prepaid Cards” (under Payments & Reloading), print out a form, fill it out, and then present it at the bank. Once it’s activated, you’ll be able to see your card statement online. πŸ™‚

        Hi Cathy,

Try calling the branch in which you enrolled for the card, and tell them you still can’t see your statement. Maybe they messed it up a bit.

That’s what happened to mine. I called BPI hotline and they only told me to do the above. (Un)fortunately, it was my branch that was at fault; the branch then told me to check my online “dashboard” after 24 hours again, and then there it was. After logging in to your BPI online account, you should see the link to your statement immediately (below the Savings Account link, for my case).

    • Reply Maan January 10, 2016 at 6:44 pm

Hi! If you already have a BPI Express Online account, have the More Fun card “added” to it; you need the help of a teller. If you don’t have an account yet, make one first then have the card verified by the teller. πŸ™‚ Your verification code will reflect there na in your online statement. Hope that helps!
