A Girl’s Review of Windows 10

Windows 10 review

Have you tried the all-new Windows 10?

I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 last Saturday — and I’m loving it. It’s the best

I reserved my upgrade about 2 months ago, and I seriously couldn’t wait for July 29 to come. When the day finally came, I thought everyone who had reserved would automatically get notified and receive the upgrade. Apparently, that was not the case as Microsoft was rolling out upgrades gradually. This explained why it was already the 31st and I still didn’t get any notification.

ThenΒ impatient-me discovered that there was another way to upgrade — through Microsoft itself. You only need to download their Media Creation Tool, run it, follow the instructions, wait, and say hello to Windows 10. I ran the installer last Saturday, and I had to wait for 6 hours to complete the entire installation process. Some of my friends only waited for an hour, while some 5 hours or more. Since my laptop is fairly new (Intel i3), I guess the internet connection factor also plays into the wait.

Windows 10 upgrade

But the wait was totally worth it. At least for me. I’ve been through several Windows OS — and when I say several, I mean Windows 95, Windows 98, even Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 — and this is, so far, my absolute favourite OS. These are the reasons:

1. The interface is beautiful.

I don’t think there’s an element I don’t love. Everything’s so sleek and business-like, but thanks to personalisation options, my PC manages to look feminine.

2. The OS is a lot more user-friendly.

Say goodbye to the pesky charms and tiles — and the hit-or-miss sidebar. In Windows 10, the tiles, programs, apps, virtually everything you need are incorporated into the Start menu — where they belong.

3. The apps are now more accessible and usable.

When I was using Windows 8, apps to me were basically useless. I didn’t like using them, even OneNote, because they took up the whole screen. If they can be used in a window, I didn’t know how to. I didn’t like the feeling of not being able to see my other windows, so I generally stayed away from apps.

In Windows 10, apps are now opened in windows, not full-screens. Others may not like it, but I love it. I can now use apps like regular programs!

4. It’s just generally a smoother experience.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but my laptop seems to have become faster ever since I upgraded. It was already quite fast to begin with, but now I don’t notice any lags at all. I’m not sure about the battery life though!

5. Even Microsoft Edge is good.

Microsoft Edge Make A Web Note

Another thing that excited me about Windows 10 is Microsoft Edge (aka Project Spartan). It’s the successor of the infamous (more like notorious) Internet Explorer. Before you raise your perfectly-lined brows, let me tell you that it’s nothing like its predecessor. Browsing is really quick and smooth (at least in my experience), and Google Chrome actually feels laggy compared to it. I also love the added feature, “Make a Web Note,” and the incorporated snipping tool.

However, it won’t be my default browser yet because it still lacks a lot of necessary features. For starters, the browser doesn’t support charts – how on earth am I gonna make reports without charts? Also, it doesn’t support add-ons yet. I can’t like without Pocket and RSS Feed Reader. Finally, while browsing is smooth and awesome, it is still a bit buggy. If these problems get fixed, it will surely be my default browser.

So there you go, a girl’s review of Windows 10. Have you tried Windows 10? What do you think about it?

I guess that would really depend on your computer’s specs, Nilyn! Di bumagal akin, and I’ve never read of a complaint naman na bumagal. You can always revert to your old OS if you don’t like it πŸ™‚

My husband would be thrilled of this. Although I’m a mac person, I do appreciate how structural windows still is.

Mine had a problem installing, huhu. It worked fast on my husband’s laptop but not on mine and my laptop has better specs, his has i5 and mine has i7, I still have more than 300gb free, and we have the same internet connection. I checked out forums about this and some has the same problem, meeting all the requirements but still having issues. I got into that same screen you have above and it reached 100% but after it restarted, I didn’t see how many times exactly because I left it alone, I still have Windows 8. I already tried twice. Oh well, tough luck, I’ll just try again, haha. Haba ng comment ko, hugot, haha.

Oo nga, hugot! Hahaha! I encountered a problem, too, pero different naman from yours. Mine was just not starting at all. You wouldn’t guess that the solution to my problem was just switching my laptop’s language from UK English to US English. Then it worked! I hope you’ll find a solution din, or maybe you can just wait for the Windows notification.

Wow it looks like the last Windows Mobile I saw on a Nokia phone before. My hubby has it on his PC, I find it intimidating though.

downloading my Windows 10 this weekend, it’s ready for that. I’m a little scared. I bought a laptop that was on Windows 8 then I upgraded it to Windows 8.1 which cause my system to crash twice. It was horrifying, I lost so many important files and photos. πŸ™ I hope that Windows 10 won’t do that to me.
