Lifestyle Messy Haul Shopping

What I Bought From the S&R Members’ Treat 2017

I finished work early today so I was able to fit in some S&R shopping before it was time to fetch Yuri from school. We were planning to go tomorrow pa but then I remembered Yuri has an appointment with our dentist tomorrow, so we tried to pass by S&R to see whether the queue outside the entrance was manageable…

Lo and behold there was no queue! I was expecting the same queue I experienced during last year’s Members’ Treat so I was pleasantly surprised. Then again we were there early afternoon on the third day of the sale (Friday) so either the shoppers were already done shopping or haven’t arrived yet. There were no long queues inside the warehouse either!

Unlike last year, I wasn’t able to take photos of the goods on sale this year because I was in a hurry as I needed to be back at Yuri’s school by 3:30 pm. Also, unlike last year when I was with friends, this time my parents tagged along and I gladly accepted the company for the #seniorcitizen benefits lol.

I was able to read comments of some people saying that the sale this year is not as extensive as the past years’. I actually do not mind at all because I’m coming into the store with no specific thing I need to buy naman. I’m not there to hoard or panic-buy either. My mindset is that I’ll just buy whatever practical find catches my eye. And speaking of things that catch my eye, here are the stuff I bought!

Giant bag of chocolates – P500

Beside a bag of KitKats for reference

E.Wedel chocolates, Buy 1 Take 1 for P99 (This is originally 6 pieces; Yuri already ate the other one) I forgot I went back and added 3 more pairs of milk chocolate. The milk chocolate variant tastes better than the caramel white choc one, in my opinion.

Food Restaurant Review

BFF Bonding at Munchtown Grill!

I am trying to go on a diet now (keyword is trying), but there’s still nothing I’d rather do than bond with my friends over good food and yummy conversations.

Hazel and George, AKA the two closest friends I have who still live in Davao, and I don’t meet that often. In fact, we just meet each other once a month (at most lol) on special dates because of our crazy schedules. So we try to make sure to find a good restaurant that serves really good food!

Not an easy thing to do, though, because we’re trying to save money at the same time. We used to spend too much on food and regret our life decisions afterward haha so now we’re looking for places that serve good food and, at the same time affordable. Good thing we discovered Munchtown Grill through Davao Food Guide on Facebook!

It’s pretty easy to locate — it’s just beside Cafe Demitasse — and you can immediately spot it because of its outdoor setup. If you’re an indoor with A/C fiend, don’t worry. They totally have air-conditioned seating, which was where we sat. I had so much fun catching up with my friends. The downside is that I forget to take pictures when I’m busy with chismis lol! With that said, I grabbed this picture of the restaurant off another website hehe.

The decor was industrial chic. Here’s what’s inside the airconditioned room (we think you can hold small meetings in there):

When we initially found out about Munchtown Grill, what we wanted to try was their Kimchi Rice.

But we weren’t able to try it because we were in the mood for other things hehe. Here are the things we ordered instead:

Munchtown Fries – P130

This was a winner. The fries were fresh, not frozen, as promised, and it had the right amount of kick and savory flavor. It surely doesn’t hurt to have all those pieces of bacon in there.

Chili and Cheese Dog – P85

This was my order, and I can still remember how it tastes! On the menu, it says that they use all-natural beef hotdogs. I have no way of proving that, but the hotdog didn’t taste too salty as commercial hotdogs often do. However, it was really flavorful. The ratio of chili to cheese to hotdog is p-e-r-f-e-c-t! Even the bread, which was not too thick, was great!

Carbonara – P130?

This is admittedly an ugly picture haha. George ordered it. She was seated across from me and she was also busy documenting it through Instagram story lol so I couldn’t get a pretty angle. Here’s a picture from Munchtown Grill that is heaps better nyahaha.

Cheeseburger – P160

And here’s Hazel’s cheeseburger. She was kinder and actually lent me her platter haha. I wasn’t able to taste their orders (friends do that all the time, don’t they?) because I just recovered from sickness, but based on their reactions to their food, I’m sure they all tasted fantastic!

Fresh Watermelon Lemonade – P50

OMG I was so in love with their Fresh Watermelon Lemonade! It tasted really, erm, fresh! Seriously, it’s a very refreshing drink. It had the right balance of sweet and tangy, and on top of that, it’s cheap at P50!

Yuri also had the Oreo milkshake, which I forgot to take a picture of, so here’s one from Munchtown Grill’s FB page again #parasite

I had a tiny sip of it, and I loved that it didn’t taste like shave ice. In fact, I didn’t detect any piece of ice at all! It tasted like ice cream — what I think milkshakes are supposed to taste like. And it’s just P98!

What affordable place have you discovered lately?

We Were Sick This Week

I’m currently writing this post from bed as I’m still recovering from gastro. Yes, eww, but I’m just thankful that this one is a lot milder than the bouts of gatro I’ve had in the past. Still, I had to take a sick leave because my body is tired from all that (TMI) throwing up and bathroom sessions lol, not to mention the headache that I’m still having.

If there’s one thing good about being sick today, it’s the timing. You see, Yuri had been sick for almost 5 days and just recovered last Tuesday. He’s back to his old form today, which is when my gastro started. At least I didn’t have to take care of another sick person while I was also feeling terrible!

Yuri’s Asthma

Let’s not talk about my yucky gastro. Let’s talk about Yuri’s asthma instead. Yep, he had another asthma attack, which I think just confirms that the poor boy is, in fact, asthmatic. I firmly suspect that it’s cigarette smoke that triggers his attacks since he was exposed to it last week (not in our home). Now I am praning about letting him outside the house. As much as I want him to play with his friends, I don’t want to risk it. I’ll just let him play either in the school playground or in the village playground if the weather’s nice.

Yuri’s first time to be absent from school… and hopefully the last! Asthma, asthma, go away! 😷

I learned that an asthma attack doesn’t always constitute rapid breathing and retraction. In many cases, it is there, but sometimes it’s just dry cough. Yuri happened to have both, but mostly the dry cough. He first got sick last Thursday, and I thought it was just an ordinary cold (which he’s had on and off because kids), and he seemed fine so I let him go to school.

When I left him at his classroom, he was fine and playing with his classmates. I didn’t know that a couple of hours later, he started being lethargic. Yuri refused to participate in the activities, which was unlike him. He was sent to the clinic, but he insisted he was fine (which was very Yuri). And ultimately, he threw up in the classroom. I cleaned it up when I arrived to fetch him.

(Segue: It also happened that they were having their quiz day – all subjects – on that particular day. I wasn’t worried but I was already thinking that he might have gotten low scores on his quizzes since he wasn’t feeling well. That’s why when we received the quiz results last Tuesday, I was really surprised to see that he got all perfect scores! #humblebrag)

On Friday, he was breathing fast and had retractions, but not as severe as before. Kuya Rey, our family friend and neighbor, who worked as a med-tech in Canada if I’m not mistaken, helped us procure medicine (Ventolin) and a nebulizer from another neighbor.

Our neighbor’s nebulizer

It seemed to relieve him, and the retractions immediately disappeared. I thought he was already fine but by the next day, Saturday, Yuri’s cough grew drier. It was so dry that he couldn’t even cough and cried because of frustration. That’s when we decided to finally take him to his pedia.

Yuri’s Nebulizer (Omron NE-C25S)

We were prescribed a gazillion drugs and were advised to continue nebulizing. Job and I decided that it’s high time we get Yuri a nebulizer of his own instead of relying on our neighbor’s. Here it is:

Without the tubing, etc.

I was firm about buying the Omron brand because our 11-year old Omron blood pressure monitor is still working. It’s more expensive than the brands you can buy, for example, at Watsons, but it’s cheaper than hospital-grade machines. Also, Omron has a service center in Davao City, which is certainly a plus. Most of the Omron machines I saw were within the 4k-5k price range, but fortunately, we checked out Amesco, which carries Omron nebulizers for cheaper.

Our Omron NE-C25S costs P2,650.

I’m very contented with it, and it delivered Yuri’s medicines to his lungs very efficiently. I’ll try to write a review about it one of these days! Awa ng Diyos, he’s already feeling a lot better now, still coughing but the normal, not-painful kind of cough.

My little honor student, back to his old self 😍

PS: Meanwhile, I still haven’t eaten a decent meal this day (it’s almost 5 pm) because I don’t have an appetite. Also, even if I wanted to eat, my stomach refuses to keep food down. Help!

A Bullying Problem & Bikes Without Training Wheels

Hi! I’m hoping you enjoyed your holiday last weekend. Job certainly enjoyed his well-deserved break with his work buddies in Riyadh. They went road-tripping for 2 days, going from Riyadh to Dammam. On the other hand, I didn’t take a holiday (our team’s own prerogative) because we just took 2-3 holidays for the past two weeks. Not that it’s forbidden; it just felt uncomfortable to have to ask for another holiday again.

I’m already done with work so I proceeded to my current favorite place — right in front of our house! It’s a great place to chill (and people-watch) and it’s also a great place to blog because fresh air and all that stuff. Sometimes, our adopted cat chills out with me. It’s a bonus that I can see my son play with our neighbors.

My current favorite chill spot 🌸

Speaking of neighbors. We’re having a little bit of a problem lately. Yuri plays with the neighborhood kids a lot but two of them, the ones he plays with often, are going through their snobby phase. I’m not sure if it is considered bullying because they often play together; however, there are times when they refuse to play with Yuri. For no reason! I’m aware that there’s no reason because we literally just step out of the car and they’re already crossing their arms, looking mad and we don’t know why… Continue Reading
