Lifestyle Messy Weekends Personal Shopping

Shopping + Bonding on Kadayawan Weekend

A full week has passed since the actual Kadayawan Festival but I’ve been so incredibly busy that I haven’t gotten around to writing about it until today.

Thank goodness for public holidays!

(I’m having my public holiday today actually because I opted to work yesterday.)

Anyway, my Kadayawan weekend was full to the hilt! I thought you might be interested (lol) so I’ll share with you what I did last weekend.

1. Kadayawan Bazaar

My weekend officially began that Friday. August 19th was a city holiday (as well as the 22nd, a Monday), but we opted to work. We then let off steam that afternoon at the Kadayawan Bazaar because retail therapy, that’s why!

My sister and I went home carrying quite a few shopping bags, most of which are food and clothes, but these are my most interesting finds:

5 Practical Tips in Booking a Rental Condominium Unit

How was your weekend? Mine was an absolute blast because it was (1) Kadayawan weekend and (2) one of my best friends, Christine, was home! We haven’t seen Tine in over a year as she’s been working as an English teacher in Japan so we were really excited to spend a weekend with her.

The theme of our bridal shower was obvious haha
From left to right: George, Christine (the bride), me, and Hazel

We originally had a room booked at Banana Beach at Tagum. However, not all things go according to plan. We had to cancel our reservation at the last minute (thank you Hijo staff for being so considerate and awesome!) and I spent Thursday — 2 days before our get-together/bridal shower — looking for a new accommodation. A difficult feat.

As aforementioned, it was Kadayawan weekend, which means Davao City would be teeming with tourists. Every hotel and rental condos were fully booked! Then I finally stumbled upon one condominium unit at Palmetto Place Condominium which was available. I immediately grabbed it and paid for it in full.

Well… let’s just stay that while the amenities of the condominium itself were great, our room left a lot to be desired. I have been booking accommodations for friends, family, even neighbours for years, but I learned a lot from that experience. Here are 5 things you should look for when booking a rental condominium unit.

1. Make sure you can easily contact the condominium unit owner.

Our 3 Must-Haves For Fighting Flu

It’s flu season again!

Actually, we (at least in our household) get flu throughout the year, but the intense weather — hot days alternating with gloomy, rainy days — take toll on our immune system so we catch a cold more often these months. In fact, I am coughing while typing this, while Yuri is sneezing. Boo!

He had to miss school the other day. So I'm posting this picture of Yuri appreciating his "Good Job" stamp from last week instead.

He had to miss school the other day. So I’m posting this picture of Yuri appreciating his “Good Job” stamp from last week instead.

So on the onset of July (which also happens to be the month when dengue cases escalate!), I make sure I have these three flu-fighters at home:

1. Vitamins

IMG_6947

Better safe than sorry, they say, and I believe so. I’d rather take a couple of minutes each day making sure that we all have taken vitamins than regret not doing so!

Wert Philippines has been sending us Nutri-10 Plus vitamins since last year, and these have undoubtedly help made Yuri grow bigger and stronger. I also believe the nutrients in Nutri-10 plus, especially its Vitamin C content, help Yuri get tougher when it comes to fighting flu and cold. It still happens, but they’re almost always manageable.

7 Things I Need as a Newbie Real Estate Broker

7 Things I Need as a Newbie Real Estate Broker - A ShopBack Wishlist-

Working from home comes with a special blessing-slash-curse.

I’m online pretty much the entire day and sometimes, that means easier access to online shopping websites! That spells disaster for my bank account, but the good thing about being online all the time is discovering services that help me save money. I stumble upon promos and discounts, and I also learned about ShopBack.ph.

ShopBack is the #1 cashback/rebates site in the Philippines that gives you cashback for your online purchases on top of exclusive discounts. Basically, you earn while you shop! I wrote about ShopBack early this year, and since then, my cashback only increased. I can no longer shop online without using it!

ShopBack

The best thing about ShopBack is its reliability. It has over 300 partnering merchants like Lazada and Zalora (even Althea!) and was featured on The Manila Times, Philstar, Inquirer.net, GMA Network, Tech In Asia, Channel NewsAsia & more. It is also present in 5 other countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and Taiwan. When I cashed out my earnings a few months ago, I was surprised because it was super easy. Plus, I was able to withdraw the amount I earned in full!

Because of ShopBack, I’m more confident to shop online because it saves me big bucks. Right now, I’m in the middle of a big lifestyle transition. While I am still working for my employer full-time, I decided to exert more effort into my real estate work — I’m a licensed real estate broker — and I might need quite a few things.

(Of course, this is not the same for everyone. This is what currently need as someone who is working from home full-time, homeschooling a preschooler, and looking forward to a start-up realty office!)

What’s in the Cart of a Real Estate Broker Who Wants to Practise

1. Camera

Specifically: Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 (P13,995)

All real estate practitioners know that you must have a decent camera to take pictures of properties. I used to have a Samsung WB150F and I was able to use it for more than 2 years. Now it’s already conking out and I can’t really just depend on my phone for pictures all the time. Lumix is my ultimate camera crush, btw!

Available on Lazada

2. Wireless Vacuum Cleaner

Specifically: Bosch BBHMOVE3 Hand Stick Vacuum (P12,474)

Almost every day I wish I had a reliable household helper lol, but the truth is finding a good one that is 100% trustworthy is like finding a needle in a haystack. So instead of paying someone a monthly salary, why not buy household appliances that make life a breeze?

Available on Lazada

3. iPad Mini

Specifically: iPad Mini 2 16GB (P12,399)

A good tablet is also a real estate practitioner must-have. You can use it to update your website or Facebook page on the go or use it to show your clients pictures and property info. I used to own an O+ tablet but it conked out only a few months after it was bought. Two thumbs down, boo!

Available on Lazada

4. Dishwasher

Specifically: Fujidenzo DS-65SC 65L Infrared Tableware Sterilizer (P10,965)

Same reason as the vacuum cleaner! I don’t know about you, but washing dishes takes up so much of my time, it’s frustrating!

Available on Lazada

5. Running Shoes

Specifically: Nike Air Max 2016 Running Shoes (P9,445)

Nike Air Max 2016 Running Shoes

You’re gonna be everywhere if you’re going to work as a real estate practitioner! You’re going to go on site visits, go to banks, offices of developers, even government agencies. So a pair of sturdy running shoes is a must. (Also, this will probably inspire me to go to the gym.)

Available on Zalora

6. Pocket Projector

Specifically: Lenovo Pocket Projector P0510 (P13,299)

This is also very useful for on-the-spot presentations. The best part? It’s so small and handy you don’t have to lug a huge piece of equipment wherever you go!

Available on Lazada

7. Oven

Specifically:  Imarflex MOD-CV30DS 30L Microwave & Convection Oven (P10,000)

The last item on my wishlist is a toss between a slow cooker and a convection oven. A slowcooker sounds awesome, and I’m sure I would have access to hundreds of slow cooker recipes. But I’m paranoid. I can’t leave anything turned on when I leave the house because what if there’s a power interruption? Que horror! So it’s a convection cooker; at least I can make lunches without hassle!

Available on Lazada

You know what’s even more awesome? If I buy these things via ShopBack.ph, I’ll get a percentage of my money back guaranteed! So essentially I’m saving money on these stuff. It’s very easy to use, too. All you need to do is:

  1. Sign up

Working From Home is Not Always Beautiful

Whenever I ask job applicants why they want to work from home, they always tell me that they want to have more time for their family.

That is basically why most people choose to work from home.

(Aside from the fact that there is less hassle, no traffic, and no need to buy lunch, you are not subject to the forces of nature lol.)

Gloomy afternoon. Sarap matulog but I’m still working! 😂 #wahmlife

When I first took the leap to become a full-time WAHM in 2012, I thought it was the most ideal setup a mother could have. I see my son, who was then an infant, every minute of every day and even though we had a yaya, I was still hands-on when it came to him.

But working from home is not exactly flowers and rainbows.

For example, just the other day, it wasn’t even 8 am and I was already deadbeat. Piles of dishes that needed to be washed greeted me when I took a break to eat breakfast. The house was messy all throughout and the floors badly needed sweeping. My dad, who undergo regular dialysis, needs to be assisted when taking his meds. Yuri is a lot more independent now but of course he still needs my regular assistance and guidance.

Someone wants to take over my desk! 😁 #wahm #wahmlife #desk #deskgram

All that while working – talking to my bosses, taking care of staff concerns, setting up interviews with applicants, chasing deadlines.

Pest-Off Review and Giveaway

Are rats a problem in your home?

Frankly, rats are not much of a problem at our home. Now, cockroaches, that’s another story! However, lately we’ve been noticing a couple of brown mice scurrying outside our house at night. They don’t go inside our home but they’ve left “nasties” outside.

Pest-Off Review and Giveaway

Fortunately, I received the entire line of Pest Off’s rodent control products. Here they are!

Saturday Sale Finds From Forever 21

Even though they’re marketed toward teens, Forever 21 is one of my guilty pleasures.

To be honest, I don’t go gaga over their dresses – although I like most of what I’ve bought throughout the years! The main reason why I still shop at Forever 21 is because they can be dirt cheap.

The damage has been done. 💔 #forever21 #sale #salefinds #shopping

What to expect at Forever 21’s Season Ender sales

While I like buying a shirt or a dress at regular price, I go crazy whenever Forever 21 holds a season-ender sale. Unlike other stores, where a “sale” doesn’t really feel like a “sale,” here I can shop ’til I drop without feeling guilty like at all. You can buy a dress for as low as P150! Of course that’s really rare (I was able to buy a good dress for just P175 I think a year ago though!) and you really need to dig into hangers and hangers of clothes.

Also, don’t expect to see the good stuff right away. Piled with good clothes are clothes with tears, but don’t lose hope. There might be a real gem hiding behind what seems to be a reject pile.

Homeschooling Preschool School

Our Homeschool Preschool Routine – A Day in the Life

Homeschool Preschool Routine

I’m very new to homeschooling.

Prior to this year, we’ve never done formal homeschooling. But now that he’s 4, we decided to formalise it (on a certain level) by following a regular homeschool routine and teaching specific subjects and lessons. (Note: We’re homeschooling independently.)

And even though we are so new to this, I’ve already gotten several questions asking me how we do it. First of all, I try not to pressure myself and Yuri. If I’m feeling tired from work or household chores, I call it a day and we just play instead. If I sense that Yuri’s not in the mood for pencil work, I let him paint or draw or whatever he likes.

I don’t shy away from technology either. We use 2, no 3 free websites to supplement our lessons (I’ll write about them too for everyone who’s interested).

Now, here’s our specific routine from sun up to sun down: Continue Reading
